Flea Bag No-Tell-Motel

This past weekend my friends and I headed to Tampa for a Rascall Flatts concert. Due to us all being a little thing called poor, we tried to make this trip as cheap as possible. I was in charge of finding a place for us to stay the night of the concert. Since everyone was opposed to sleeping in the car, I took it to the next classy level and booked us a room at the Roadway Inn. The normal rate of the room was $38, but luckily my Illinois Farm Bureau membership got me the room at a discounted rate of $28. Now, to some people booking a hotel room that cost $28 might be a red flag, but for me, I thought it was nothing short of a sweet deal!

So we pull up to the hotel. Sure we had to drive through the ghetto to get there, but the actual hotel didn't look too bad from the outside. When we walked inside there were about three hillrod looking people running the front desk. They checked us in, and we went to find our room. We walked into room number one, beds were made, the towells looked clean, overall not too shabby. Then I walked over by the air conditioner to set my bags down, and the carpet literally looked like it was moving! There were ants EVERYWHERE! So we immiditly left that room, and went down to the front desk. We informed the man at the front desk about the problem, knowing that he'd be as outraged as we were. He looked at us with a blank stare and said, "So what is it that you're wanting?" A ROOM WITHOUT BUGS PLEASE! So he gives us a new room, we checked that one out. It looked good, so we sat our bags down. Then my friend Christina pulled back the covers and there were bugs.....in the sheets! So back to the front desk we went! Once again, the front desk workers were less than appologetic and gave us yet another room. Room number three looked promising, so we sat our bags down, showered, and left for the concert (which by the way was amazing!!!). Fast forward a few hours, we came back into the hotel, exausted, pulled back the sheets and once again we were invaded by bed bugs! So we were all too tired to move again, and chances were favorable that room number four was not going to be sqeeky clean either! We reached the mutual decision to stay in the room. I did what anyone would do in this situation and slept on top of the covers, in a Walt Disney World issued jacket, with a beach towell. I think our night at the Roadway Inn can pretty much be summed up by this direct quote from the female hillrod front desk worker, "This sure as hell ain't the Sheraton!"

So other than the buggy hotel, the Tampa weekend was way fun! We spent Sunday at the beach in Clearwater and it was a gorgous day! Running is going ok, not great, just ok. My sister mailed me puppy chow this week, which was AMAZING. Too bad I ate it in .4 seconds. Self control is not exactly my fortay!

Till next time folks, Peace!

20/20

So right now you are currently reading my 20th post on the 20th of September. If that's not a sign, then I don't know what is. A sign of what, I don't know...

So not much new to report here. This is a slow time at Disney, so the parks have been pretty quiet. This past week Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party started. My friends and I went on the opening night, and was really fun! I was surprised by how many people dress up for this event, even though Halloween is more than a month away. This is a special ticket event, which means to get into the party a person needs a separate ticket aside from a regular park admission ticket. There are only a certain number of tickets sold each night, so the lines to rides are ubber short. There is a special parade, fireworks, and trick or treating! I definitely left with a bag full of candy that night, and felt sick by the time I went to bed from over indulging! I've also been picking up shifts working in the parks during the Halloween party. The costume I wear for this is by far the mother of all costumes! I wear a bat on my head. Enough said...

After spending nearly two weeks of falling off the ol running wagon, due to being home and having visitors, I am back in action! Not to toot my own horn, but as of today I am on schedule with my training and completed 5.5 miles last night! Thank you, thank you!

Still no news on the What the Bleep is Kelsey Going To Do With Her Life front. HOWEVER, I did start reading this book called "What Color Is Your Parachute?" I highly recommend it! It's basically about how to find a job in this economy, and more than just finding a job, but finding what it is that you're passionate about. You should read it!

It's still really hot in Florida, and I'm loving it! Not one bit jealous seeing pictures of my friends in sweaters. I'll stick with my shorts and tank tops thank you very much!

Love you all!

I'ma Back!

Yes, you are reading this properly. I am spending my Friday night uploading facebook pictures and updating my blog. My college self would be so ashamed!

This past week and a half has been crazy, but way fun! Last Wednesday I flew home, and the wonderful Jenny and Mark Raabe picked me up from the airport. A bunch of my friends came over that night, and it was so great to see them all! Thursday, my best good friend, Allison, drove down to see me for the day. I took it upon myself to teach her to drive stick shift in one of the farm pick up trucks. We did spend 15 minutes at a stop sign with her trying to move from neutral to first. Thankfully, a local farmer pulled up next to us and starred at us. Allison smiled with her cute little dimples and said, "I'm just trying to learn to drive stick." The farmer nodded and said, "well try puttin' er in first." Then he drove away. Well thanks Helpy Helperton! After that little incident she did very well, and I was quite proud of my student!

Friday, Allison left. I cried. Then Eric came to visit, which is always a fun time. We went to rehearsal dinner Friday night, which was delicious! We then went to watch my cousin Blane's football game. I will always think of him as my little cousin, so it was quite humerus standing on the sidelines and hearing the high school girls behind me talk about the little hunk. "Is Blane coming with us tonight? I hope so! I'll wait outside the locker room and ask him!" Oh to be young again...

Saturday was the wedding day! The whole thing was really beautiful, and Lindsey was gorgeous! I felt a little nostalgic throughout the entire ceremony. Something about someone you've grown up with getting married, just makes me a little emotional! The reception was everything I had hoped it would be and more! I did take two pretty hard falls while busting a move (or should I say a Stanky Leg). Seriously people, no need to spill your drinks on the dance floor!

Sunday my brother, his family, and I headed off to the airport and flew back to Orlando. It was sad leaving home, but I am happy to be back in Orlando. It's definitely not been a tough week back. I've been working here and there and mostly just enjoying Chad and Stacy's vacation! Experiencing Walt Disney World with little kids is way fun!

On a final note, as many of you will, all day tomorrow I will be thinking about the events that happened nine years ago. I saw this quote a while back, and wanted to share.

"The real differences around the world today are not between Jews and Arabs; Protestants and Catholics; Muslims, Croats, and Serbs. The real differences are between those who embrace peace and those who would destroy it; between those who look to the future and those who cling to the past; between those who open their arms and those who are determined to clench their fists." ~William J. Seattle???

Ok, so I'm not really in Seattle, but with this lovely weather we've had this week it sure feels like it. No joke, its been pouring everyday for like a week and a half straight. Not even exaggerating! It's a little much! So with that being said, please excuse this less than exciting post as I've been stuck inside for a week!

After working a bazillion hours last week, I decided I would take it easy on myself this week. The end of August and beginning of September is a really slow time at Walt Disney World, as it's the time most kids are heading back to school. Therefore, there hasn't been as much of a demand for vacation planners. After my boss informed me the other day that we were out numbering the guests four to one and that he would gladly grant any requests to leave work early, I took it upon myself to submit an E.R. (early release). It was so much fun leaving work early the first day, that I decided to do it the next two days as well. As I mentioned earlier, it was pouring all work. However, it was perfect napping weather!

One of my highlights this week was coming home to find a package from the Zanolla's, one of the families I babysat for in college! Inside were some of the boys artwork and some AMAZING homemade cookies! They were so delicious, that I put them in my room so that I wouldn't have to share with anyone. Apparently though, I have the self control of a two year old and ate six within the first hour of receiving them. After devouring the first half dozen, I quickly had flashbacks of three years ago when my friends from home flew out to VA Beach to ride home with me. I had spent the entire summer of 2007 eating a steady diet of Krispy Kream Donuts and Haagen Dazs ice cream. When I picked them up from the airport, my face looked like it had been hooked me up to an air tank! Not wanting that to be the case when I see them all next week, I decided to not be a selfish lardo and shared with my roommates. Don't worry though, I still polished off about six more.

So in the few hours I wasn't napping, I did do some fun things this week. A group of us to eat at Olive Garden. You can never go wrong with that place! I've started training for the 1/2 marathon. So far, so good! My roommate Amy, who is running it with me, and I went shopping at the running store and got some new spandex! All experienced runners know that training always starts with shopping. At least that's what I've heard.... I also went to a really fun bar this week called Cowboys. As you may have guessed, this was a line dancing establishment. It was way fun! For all you WIU friends, it reminded me a lot of Stone Country. Good times! I also saw the movie The Switch, with Jennifer Aniston, last night. It was cute, but very predictable.

This past week my freaking cute nieces started school! They're getting so old, it's unreal! I called them after their first day to ask them how it went. As I was talking to Lana, the third grader, I was telling her that when they come down here for vacation it's going to be her mom's birthday, her dad's birthday, and their anniversary, so we'll have to think of lots of fun surprises for them. She started whispering and said, "Ok, what's like the most romantic place in Disney World?" Too cute! Then I talked to Bridget, the kindergartner, as we were getting off the phone she says, "Kelsey, how long until I'm going to see you?" I said, "Only seven more days Bridget!" She started whining and said, "Ugh why does it have to be sooo long. Why can't it be short like just one week or something?" And that is why she is being sent to school.....

I really do love it here, and am still really happy I'm living in Florida. However, I am beyond excited about going home in FOUR days! Being away from home, really does make you appreciate where you came from that much more. Driving down the Walkerville turnoff and pulling up to Schutz Farms is still one of the best feelings in the whole world!

See you all in four days, or half a week, which ever seems shorter!

Wardrobe Malfunction

So in an effort to make some extra cash before I head home in a few weeks, I decided it would be a good idea to work sixty hours this week. As it turns out, I don't function well working this many hours. I need days off to relax and not think about anything Disney related. Without these days off, my brain becomes mush. Now I know lots of people probably work sixty hours plus every week, but please keep in mind approximately one year ago I went to class maybe 11 hours a week. That was my only commitment of the entire week. Baby steps here people!

So in the madness of working sixty hours, I didn't have a lot of free time and had to prioritize. Regularly bathing, nah. Laundry, ehhh. Exercise, not so much. Keep in mind I only have two costumes to wear to work. It's Florida, and at times I perspire in my beloved costume. So after working two weeks straight, I was starting to get into a stinky situation. Knowing that I wouldn't have time to do laundry I decided to run into costuming quickly after work Monday and pick up a new costume. Inside of the costuming building there are rows and rows of the same uniform. I know that in Disney size (which is very different than normal sizing) I wear a size 10 pant with a 36 inch length. I was in a hurry and since I knew that was my size, I opted to speed up the process and not try on my new costume before leaving the store. So I drive home, throw the new costume in my closet, and don't give it a second thought. Speed ahead 12 hours. It's 7:00 A.M., I'm running late for work (surprise, surprise) I quickly throw my greasy hair into a messy bun, brush my teeth, and last but not least, put on my costume. Right leg in, left leg in, pull the pants up, and I feel the cuff of my pant resting about three inches below my knee cap. Excellent! The costume store would not be open before work, and even if it were open I didn't have time to go there and make it to work on time. So, I had no choice but to wear my pants turned Capri to work for the day. Before I buttoned up the "pants" I wanted to take a quick look at the tag, just for grins. Yep, the pants were definitely 10x26. So what is one to do when they have on the ultimate high waters? Wear black knees highs in an effort to try to make them blend in of course! It didn't work at all! As I walking into work people were noticeably staring at me. Like I would be walking in between a booth and the break room and I would see a guest. I would smile at them and say hello. They would awkwardly say hi, and then their eyes would immediately drift towards my short pants. My coworkers were also kind about the situation. So, how much is it supposed to rain today, hey there Pippie Longstalking, Clam digger, Ikabod, were all among the comments and names I got thrown my way. I was never so glad to take off a pair of pants in my entire life as I was Tuesday night. Lesson learned, try on pants before leaving costuming!

In other news, I saw this movie Eat, Pray, Love this week. Super good movie! Totally made me feel like packing up all my belongings and moving to India! Speaking of moving, I'm starting to feel the four month crunch on trying to decide my next step in life. I'm currently accepting advice on this topic from any interested party! I also had my very first experience with an irate guest at my window today. I seriously thought he was going to punch me, spit on me, or a combination of the two. He started screaming and demanding he speak with my manager concerning our ridiculous prices, because I do in fact make those prices and make a large profit off of each and every ticket. I wanted to demand that he speak with a therapist, but I thought that go over like a turd in a punch bowl. He left the window screaming you haven't seen the last of me, I'm coming after you for price gouging. I hope he had a magical day!

Happy 55th Birthday to my Dad! They best dad a girl could ask for!!!!

Ten Thoughts On Thursday

1) This past week I won free tickets from work to Cirque Du Soleil. It was SOOOO awesome! My roommate Amy and I went and sat front row. The coolest part of the entire show were these four AMAZINGLY talented, 5 year old looking Chinese girls who played with a large spool on a string. Now, I know that doesn't sound that impressive, but these girls were so well trained that they really did seem more like cute robots, than little children. If you ever get the opportunity to see it, do!

2) My training for the half marathon officially starts August 24, but by that time I have to be able to run 40 minutes. Therefore, I should actually be running now to prepare for that. Let's just say I'm very thankful I live on the 2nd floor, as that seems to be the only regular exercise I've been getting lately.

3) I got my hair cut today. It hadn't been cut since February, so it needed to be done. Getting my hair cut is one of my least favorite things ever. I always have minor panic attacks at the salon, because no matter where I get my hair cut, the trims I ask for always seem to end up with enough hair laying on the floor to make at least three Locks Of Love wigs! However, the lady who cut my hair today actually did a great job. It's layered, a few more bangs, and over all not too shabby!

4) My friend Kane (there's your shout out my friend) and I rented Kayaks today and paddled down this man made river by the Port Orleans Resort. It was really fun, and a good little arm workout!

5) This week I made resort reservations and bought all the tickets for my brother Chad's family vacation to Orlando next month. I am soooo excited that they are coming to visit me. I may possibly be more excited about their vacation than they are...

6) Last night I hosted a dinner party for a few of my roommates and friends. My mother would have been so proud of me, we had a properly set table, homemade chicken and noodles, and even said a blessing before we ate. As much as my parents' insistence on proper table manners used to iritate me, I am thankful for them as an adult. The one and only time I was ever spanked, resulted from me not obeying their dinner table rules. I was two years old and just learning to talk. I was done with dinner and hopped out of my booster seat to go play in the living room. My dad said, "Kelsey Ellen get back in here. You didn't ask to be excused." I ignored him. He yelled again, "Kelsey Ellen, back in your chair please." My mom coming to her little baby's defense said, "Kenny, leave her alone she's too little to ask to be excused." I yelled back, "I do know how to say may I be excused, I just don't wanna say it!" I was spanked. I'm just thankful my stubbornness and attitude issues are strictly a part of my past...

7) This week my friends and I continued our quest to eat around the world at Epcot. We chose to visit the American restaurant this week since one of the girls who is a part of our dinner group couldn't make it this week, and we didn't want her to miss out on a fun country. Needless to say the restaurant wasn't that impressive. It was basically like an expensive McDonalds. If you're looking for dinning in Epcot, skip America and head to Japan!

8) Two of my coworkers were in a benefit concert for Make A Wish Foundation this week, and several friends and I went to go see the show. The concert had a huge choir and orchestra that was made up of all cast members who were donating their time. It was a really cool show, and fun to know that all the money was going towards a great charity. Unfortunately, the only bad part about the show was that it lasted three hours! Now I love a good orchestra and choir as much as the next girl, but sometimes enough is enough. After two and half hours, I excused myself to go to the restroom, and never came back....

9) Sometimes in life I have moments where all the sudden I feel very grown up. Last night was one of them. I went out to a bar in downtown Orlando with a group of friends, and we ended up hanging out on the rooftop area of the bar. I just felt very adult like up there. I felt like I belonged in Sex and The City or something. I'm not even sure that Carrie Bradshaw ever even hung out on rooftop bar, but if she did, she probably would have felt like me. Errr something like that.

10) I'm a very laid back person. It takes a lot to really bother me. I'm not a competitive person, nor a jealous person. However, since I've worked for Disney I've developed a bit of a problem. When I'm at work and I see someone else wearing the same Disney name tag as me, my mind instinctively goes to "hmmm wonder what department that costume is for?" I think about it for a few seconds and then go on my merry way. However, theres a different category of people. I want to be these people. I'm filled with envy when I see these people. They are non costumed cast members. Now I'm sure they wake up every morning and put their right leg, then left leg into their very own dress pants without a single thought of how greatful they should be for getting to wear an outfit of their own choosing. I swear right now in front of God and my computer that if I am ever fortunate enough to get to wear my very own clothing to work every day, I will never ever take it for granted!

Till next time my friends....

Disney's Newest Rapunzel Character....

....is not me! However, I did audition for the part, and the whole process was kind of fun. Basically, I got up way too early this morning and drove to Kissimmee where Walt Disney World holds its character auditions. There were tons of people in a gymnasium, probably around 250, who were all vying for the spot of Rapunzel. We were all measured and given a number when we first walked in. Then they called groups of 50 people into a studio room at a time. We stood in lines of ten and they played music and walked around and pointed and talked about us. If you're thinking, "Ugh this sounds kinda awkward." Then you, my friend, would be right. I was feeling all self conscious like maybe I should smile, no that's trying too hard, don't smile, now you probably look mad. Princesses never have big booties, I should clinch mine. Ohhh gladius maximus cramp! As you can tell, it was a very stressful process. After all of this judging they stoped the music, thanked us all for coming, told us to not be offended if we were not picked, and then called some girl named Brittany to please stay after. In all reality, the girl had HUGE eyes. Like they looked like a cartoon character. Hmmmmmm that may explain why she won. Anywho, I'm glad I auditioned. That's one to cross off the bucket list!

Last week my friend from college, Eric, came to visit me. It was really fun to see him and get to be some one's Orlando Tour Guide. We crammed a lot into one week. We visited all four parks, went to Cocoa Beach, and rented a speed boat (that actually wasn't very speedy). I still had to work while he was here though, but luckily he entertains himself easily. The first day I had to work, I was feeling really bad picturing him just watching TV in the hotel room, being bored out of his mind. So, on my break I tried calling him to make sure he had found his way back to the hotel. He didn't answer my multiple calls, then finally I get a text message from him that read, "Ride the tallest water slide at Blizzard Beach 3 times...CHECK." Only Eric...

Yesterday I took Eric to the airport. Who knew that flashing a little police badge would allow me to go through security and walk him all the way up to the gate? Anyways, after dropping him off at the airport I got a wee bit emotional. I really haven't been homesick at all since I've been here, but yesterday was my first little bout with it. This past weekend one of my best friends, Lindsey, had her bachelorette party, and I was just feeling kind of sad about missing out on that. The combination of Eric leaving, missing Lindsey's bachelorette party, and just being 20 hours from home for the past two months all led to a tiny little melt down. Thankfully, it was nothing a little Steak and Shake Chocolate Milkshake couldn't fix. I'm feeling much better about life today! :)

Last night I officially booked my flight home for Lindsey's wedding! Yay! I'll be getting in at 6:30 on September 1st, and will fly out September 5th. Friends and family, please plan accordingly!

Love you all!!!!
